Birders will be interested to know that it was along this river in 2006 that sightings of the Ivory Billed Woodpecker were reported. This bird, thought to be extinct is a large woodpecker, though some visitors swear the mosquitos are the size of this bird, that is speculation.  There are also wild boar and white tailed deer to be found along this river.
