Choctawhatchee River

When you step off the plane at the Destin- Fort Walton airport you will be entering the world of the Florida panhandle. Amore Limousine offers Town Car service and airport shuttles to make your trip hassle-free. You can enjoy all the entertainment and natural beauty that this area of Florida has to offer. Destin, Miramar Beach, and Grayton Beach, among others, are located on a peninsula that  separates two bodies of water. The larger of these bodies is the Gulf of Mexico and the smaller is Choctawhatchee Bay. This Bay is fed mainly from the Choctawhatchee River. To fully explore this river would take years, at best. It is surrounded for a great part by the Choctawhatchee River Water Management Area. This area is teaming with swamp wildlife. This river originates in Alabama and winds its way to the coast. Anglers will enjoy the river most when the water is low and bluegills and readear are easily caught. Largemouth bass, sunshine bass and, in the warmer months, catfish are also there for the picking. Birders will be interested to know that it was along this river in 2006 that sightings of the Ivory Billed Woodpecker were reported. This bird, thought to be extinct is a large woodpecker, though some visitors swear the mosquitos are the size of this bird, that is speculation.  There are also wild boar and white tailed deer to be found along this river. Contact area authorities to inquire about hunting in the area. As there are also American Alligators is is cautioned to same your swimming for the Gulf side of the peninsula.
